In July of 2015, Tavis and Kena attended a work conference in New Orleans. Jeff and I got to tag along and explore the area while our spouses worked. We were still able to plan some great activities while taking in the culture.
Lafayette Cemetery: This might sound like a weird option but it was actually quite interesting walking through the cemetery. It was not like anythign we have back at home. It consisted of several structures with multiple bodies inside. I think it is worth a visit.
Segway Tour: The guided segway tour was a very interesting experience. We were able to see several parts of the city on wheels. We saw damage from hurricane Katrina, and the guide shared several stories about New Orleans before and after the natural disaster. This was a very educationsal tour!
Bayou Boat Tour: We ventured on a boat in swampy waters on a mission to spot crocodiles. We saw many and we even got to hold a baby crocodile. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. This experience also left a lasting impression and I would definitely recommend doing a tour like this. It is a great was to experience the land and the animals within.
Final Thoughts: Now Orleans was a great destination. From the beignets at Cafe du Monde, to the Jazz in the steets and the clubs at night, there is so much to experience. While we were there, it wasn’t extremely crowded and the streets felt safe. I would definitely go back to New Orleans.

Plan a Guided tour: When visiting a new place, the best way to learn about the culture is to plan a guided tour. Be sure to do your research, and read the comments. Not all tours are equal! Some are better than others. Some cities even have free walking tours. Google is a great resource.
